Government Polytechnic, Pune has included a Six-Month Duration Internship in its curricula of all Diploma Programs. The internship is generally offered in the last i.e. sixth semester of the program which generally commences in third week of December and ends in third week of June every year. This is in alignment with the recommendations in National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020).
This internship enables the students to gain the industry experience, improve their knowledge and skills and prepare them for their professional careers. This helps the industries to get some of their work / a few tasks completed with the help of the students during the period of internships. Some of the industries also use this period of internship as an opportunity to assess a few students as their prospective employees.
During the internship period, a faculty mentor is assigned to a batch of 8-10 students. The industries are expected to assign a mid-senior position professional as an Industry mentor to the students placed as interns in that industry. The faculty mentors visit the respective students regularly, meet the industry mentors for regular assessment. This helps all the stakeholders to ensure the overall effectiveness of the internship process.
The first batch of interns in this scheme of curriculum was placed in the industries from 15th Dec. 2025 to 15th June 2026. The details of number of students placed and the number of industries are provided below. Many of the students were offered monthly stipends ranging from Rs. 5000/ pm to Rs. 17000/ pm during the period of internship.
The next batch of students for the internship will be available for joining from 15th Dec 2026. The selection / allocation process for this has commenced in the respective department from the first week of September 2026. In this context, the interested industries are invited to see the webpages of respective departments for the detailed curriculum of the program/s and also the following documents and then contact the respective Heads of the Departments for selections of the prospective interns.
