From 1957 to 1994, the programmes offered by the department were affiliated to Board of Technical Examination (BTE), Mumbai now known as Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE) Mumbai. In 1994, the institute was awarded academic autonomy. Hence, from 1994 onwards the Diplomas are awarded by the institute itself. In addition to this, the department had also offered Post-Diplomas in Production Engineering (1977-1990) and Tool Engineering (1992-2007) as per the contemporary needs of the industries. .

The department also offers two skill development programmes - One Year duration 'Advanced Diploma in Automotive Mechatronics' in collaboration with Mercedes Benz (India) Pvt. Ltd. and 'Two Wheeler Service Technician' in collaboration with India Yamaha Motors Pvt. Ltd.

Well qualified and experienced faculty members and supporting staff, well equipped laboratories, excellent academic results, strong connection with the industries and the alumni are the strengths of the department.

Head Of Department

Welcome to Mechanical Engineering Department!
The Department was established in 1957 with an intake 60. Later on the intake was increased to 120. From 1967 onwards the department started offering the diploma in part-time mode for working professionals. As per the policy of Government of Maharashtra, an additional division in second shift was started in the year 2010.

The department has excellent infrastructure with modern and well equipped laboratories. The department has highly qualified and experienced faculties and support staff. The department has a strong Institute Industry Interaction which helps getting sponsorship for the final year projects, conducting guest lectures for students, arranging industrial visits, undertaking faculty development programmes & carrying out consultancy activities. The department has Mechanical Engineering Student Association (MESA) which undertakes long tours/ excursions, cultural events, Paper/poster Presentation/Gaming/CAD competitions.

The department has two skill development initiatives. In collaboration with Mercedes Benz (I) Pvt. Ltd, the department conducts 'One Year Duration Advanced Diploma in Automotive Mechatronics for Diploma / Degree graduates and in collaboration with India Yamaha Motors Ltd., the department conducts 'Two Wheeler Technician Course' mainly economically weaker section and who are deprived from main stream education.

Alumni of this department are working in all sectors industries, government departments and research organizations. Many of them are entrepreneurs as well as have start-ups too.

As Mechanical Engineering has been a core branch of engineering, huge number of opportunities exists for the diploma graduates in all segments of industries such as Production, Design, Maintenance, Research and Development, IT enabled services etc.

Do visit the department. We will be happy to interact!!!
