Best Practices Adopted by Department of Information Technology :

  1. Step by step approach towards achieving bigger Project Outcome :
    1. Department has been implementing the concept of Microprojects in more than 80% courses since year 2017-2018. Microprojects are the scaled down version of real problem statements inorder to satisfy two or more course outcomes. Thus, students undertake atleast 3-4 microprojects every term.
    2. Introduction of Miniprojects i.e Microproject with slightly scaled-up problem statement satisfying COs from two or more courses combinedly in 180OB curriculum as part of two courses Professional Practice-I and Professional Practice-II. These are offered in second semester and fourth semester respectively. Thus, students are given exposure to atleast one scaled-up Microproject each year. This makes them ready for various inputs for undergoing final major capstone project.
  2. Undertaking one industry visit for each class per semester
  3. Inorder to bridge gap between theoretical Training versus Practical Training and gain more insights into practical environment, Department organises one industry visit each term for a semester.

  4. Expert Lectures :
  5. Minimum one expert lecture per term is arranged based on the path study of students for personality development and to bridge technology gaps . Two major objectives are, for students to :

    1. gain insights into the prevailing and upcoming technologies in industries.
    2. Inculcate soft skills and develop personality
  6. Informal Student Association (COMMIT):
  7. In-order to enhance the personality skills like planning, organisation, conduction, management, creativity as well as technical skills of students, Department of IT in coordination with Department of Computer forms student associations wherein a committee of students is constituted each year and various technical/Non-technical events are organised at Departmental/state level. This stimulates their creativity, boost leadership qualities and skills and put-forth the importance of team-work. This practice have been adopted by Department since year 2004.

  8. Department has introduced the MOOCs courses
  9. as part of curriculum in Professional Practices-I and Professional Practices-II wherein students are guided to undergo one MOOC course in each based on their liking and skills. Thus, students are encouraged to explore and use alternate learning platforms.

  10. Involvement of Industry and alumnae
  11. in various processes like Curriculum designing, delivering expert lectures, Project evaluations, Practical Evaluations, Internships, Practical Exam Evaluations.

  12. Induction of 6 weeks Internships:
  13. To enhance industry relevant skills 6 weeks internship programme have been introduced in curriculum of 180OB.

  14. Practice of fast learners to hand-hold slow learners :
  15. This practice is mainly followed during lab hours where fast learners are asked to help slow learners with their practical skills. This inculcates confidence and more focused learning amongst fast learner and a team work attitude amongst all students.

  16. Encouraging students
  17. to undertake socially relevant Projects and participate in National Hackathons and inter-state competitions.

  18. Organising Interdepartmental faculty learning workshops
  19. for eYantra laboratory established under guidelines of IIT Mumbai and adopting the practice of collaborative learning amongst faculties.

  20. Implementing flipped classroom concept for a topic/unit :
  21. This practice have been started since ODD2021 semester. To boost-up self learning ability, the faculty gives some topic for self-learning to all student and then takes up topic as question answer session and doubts clearance session.

  22. Department has coordinators associated with each activity . Each activity is planned at semester start and a tentative planner created . Departmental activities are executed as planned and may change with respect to other liabilities.
  23. 13. Keeping the Self Learning and Adapting to the advancement department has adopted the atleast one or two SWAYAM-NPTEL certification courses must be completed by faculties during an year.
